Coincidentally, our connection with the city of Elmhurst goes back to the times when Jeff was a student at Elmhurst College. Originally, the significant distance (and increased travel times) from Skokie and north side of Chicago did not allow us to include Elmhurst in our service area, but we now have expanded our flood control services and we are happy to have installed a handful of our Double Guard flood controls in Elmhurst in less than one year.
Elmhurst just 16 miles west of the Loop is one of the Chicago suburbs that lies in both DuPage and Cook county, with a population of just over 46,000. Most of the first settler were of German descent. Elmhurst was originally known as Cottage Hill but that changed after a group of estate owners planted many Elm trees across Cottage Hill in 1869 and then named the town Elmhurst. For residents today these Elm trees and other trees could be a potential threat to your sewer line. Parks’ has the available technology to send a camera down your sewer line to examine if you need any repairs or maintenance work. In 1882 Elmhurst was incorporated, being home to wealthy estate owners, farmers, local businessmen and owners of area industries. During 1920’s Elmhurst was one of DuPage county’s largest thriving cities. Elmhurst was considered a suburb with many urban amenities some including Elmhurst College, The Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, The Elmhurst Art Museum, and the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. The July 24 2010 storms hit Elmhurst pretty hard. Some residents got up to 6 feet of sewage water in their basements. While the problem is much more complicated than that, it has been reported that parts of the municipal sanitary sewer system were getting large amounts of storm water.
