Located near the Des Plaines River and having Silver Creek flow through it, Melrose Park is prone to flooding and sewer backups. One of the more notable flooding occurrences was in 2014. We provide sewer backup solutions and flood control systems to Melrose Park and protect many residents with our patented Double Guard flood control systems and numerous overhead sewer installations along with our yard drainage systems. We are happy to service the flood control needs of Melrose Park from our home in Skokie.
Melrose Park is a village located 12 miles west of the Chicago Loop. The population was 25,411 as of the 2010 census. Melrose Park has long been home to a large Italian-American population including Chicago mob boss Joseph Aiuppa. The suburb was the home of Kiddieland Amusement Park from 1929 until 2009 and the current home of Maywood Park Racetrack. In 1882, residents of the area voted to establish their own municipality called “Melrose” until 1893, when the “Park” was added—and population in the area began to steadily increase. The first Italian-Americans arrived in 1888.
Melrose Park evolved into an industrial suburb. Stagnating after 1900, it boomed after World War I. Manufacturers established or greatly expanded operations. At first, like other industrial suburbs, Melrose Park functioned almost as a self-contained entity. In the mid-1920s three-quarters of its workforce of more than 500 lived within the village. The evolution continued after World War II with even more companies moving to Melrose Park. Many of these companies are still located in Melrose Park and the local industry remains stable.Melrose Park has been the target of many scandals involving corruption of its public officials. Former police chief Vito Scavo was indicted on federal racketeering charges after a lengthy investigation by the FBI.
